We had always truly wondered what professional snowboarders do during summer? Okay, so we know they can escape to New Zealand or Chile or some southern hemisphere destination to really stay in “winter” year-round but is that what they do? We took a moment last month to spend a full day with Volcom snowboarder, 2-time Olympian, X- games medalist, 23 year old Elena Hight to see how she spends her days. Elena wasn’t at home in Lake Tahoe but rather living in Carlsbad, California by the ocean. Elena tries to spend some of her summer months in between the typical snowboard trip to Mt. Hood or New Zealand in a “summer” destination such as the beautiful Southern California beaches. While basing herself out of Carlsbad, she was able to train with top-level physical trainers, surf, run and enjoy a super active outdoor lifestyle. With the winters being so demanding with travels globally and bouncing from one contest to the next, the summer is really to recoup, get strong and for Elena to get her head into the needed space for the next winter.
With snow resorts just starting to open for the 2012/2013 winter enjoy the last taste of summer and then put on your snow clothes and get to the mountains!! Make sure to check out the new Volcom Snow Collection that is available at finer snow retailers globally.
