Stephanie Cherry

How does a day in the life of Stephanie Cherry unfold? On a working day I usually have to wake up early, have breakfast, jump in my car and drive to the city usually singing along to my favourite tunes. When I get to my job I usually have to go straight into hair and make up. Depending on the style of the shoot, the hair and make up process usually takes two hours. Once hair and makeup is done I then get dressed and styled and ready to shoot. With the right crew a day at work turns into a heap of fun. At the end of the day I usually just take off my make up, say goodbye to everyone then jump in my car and head home. On my days off I usually go to the gym, hang out with friends and take some photos.

What music are you into?I love all kinds of music but my favourites are old school rock and country. I love old rock bands that my dad was into when he was a teen, like The Easybeats, Rolling Stones, Kiss, The Who, The Kinks and Cheap Trick. My love for country music, however comes from my lifestyle and where I live back in Australia. I love Australian country artists such as Lee Kernaghan, The McClymonts, Jasmine Rae and also some American country artists like Johnny Cash, Miranda Lambert and Lady Antebellum.

What instruments do you play and which is your favourite?I play piano which is my favourite instrument mostly because it sounds so beautiful and classic. I’ve been able to play the piano since I was young but I’ve never had lessons so I only knew a few songs that my mum had taught me. I got more into it when I was older and learnt most of the songs I know now from YouTube. I am also using You Tube to learn the guitar although it’s a lot harder to pick up. My dad also taught me the basics of drumming since he was the drummer in a bad called “The Strays” when he was a teenager.

Any hidden talents?I can ride a unicycle, I use to compete in whip cracking, I can do some snazzy tricks with a Diablo, and I use to figure skate so I’m comfortable doing tricks on the ice.

Tell us about your love of photography and vintage style cameras?I love capturing the moment. Whether it’s with friends and family or just out and about. To me it can be the most random thing that makes a great photo and I think photography is where I get to let out my creativity. I also love taking photos because each photo tells a story and I get to be the storyteller. I find vintage style cameras really cool because the film and light that it captures comes out so different to digital photos. Also having your photos on film doesn’t clutter up your computer hard drive and cannot be lost with a click of a button.

How did you get into Modeling?I’ve always wanted to be in front of the camera ever since I was a kid. Whether it was acting, modeling or dancing I wanted to perform. When I was 13 that my dad saw a TV commercial for Bright Stars, which was a children’s acting and modeling agency. We rang them up and went in for an interview and they signed me up and I got my first job within a week. Since then I’ve been modeling during my free time from school and once I finished school I took up modeling full time and I love it.

What are the best parts about your job?Travelling and seeing the world has got to be one of the best things in my job. I get to see the world and go to places I never been before or even thought of going and get paid at the same time. Another great thing about my job is that I work with different people everyday and they all have great and fascinating stories to tell. I also love seeing the creative things people come up with on set.

Craziest photshoot you have done?Hmm where do I start? I’ve had plenty of weird and wonderful shoots but the craziest shoot would be for a design student where I had to wear a crazy red wig with bright red and yellow make up and a red dress worn backwards while holding a little rabbit.

Tell us about your life in Australia?I live in a small suburban town in western Sydney right at the base of the Blue Mountains. We own a little bit of land out there, not a lot but enough to fit our six horses, two dogs, two cats and eleven chickens. It’s not quite a farm but if you include my neighbours’ cows, goats, sheep and alpacas it feels like a farm. Growing up out here has brought me to love being outdoors. I love camping, bush walking, horse riding, motorbike riding, four-wheel driving and just soaking up the sun.

What is your favourite thing about living in Australia? There are so many things I love about Australia. I love the beaches and the warm weather. I love the animals because they are unique and can’t be found in any other country. I love the red dirt and mountain ranges and I love the chilled multicultural lifestyle. But my favourite thing about living in Australia is that it’s my home and all my friends and family are there.

What places in the world have you been to?Through modeling I have been so lucky to travel to so many amazing places. I’ve been to London, Paris, Milan, Fiji, Bali, New Zealand the U.S, Cape Town in South Africa, Marrakech in Morocco and all over Australia.

If you had to choose one place in the world to visit that you have never been to before, what place would this be?I’ve always wanted to go to St Petersburg in Russia. The Russian culture and history there really fascinates me and the architecture would be amazing to see in real life.

Has Modeling influenced your style? In some ways I think it definitely has. When I’m at shoots I like to see how the stylist would style a certain outfit and if I like it then I use it in my everyday style. For example I love wearing knee high socks with heels and a dress.

Do you have a style icon or role model?I love women like Gemma Arterton and Rosie Huntington Whiteley. They are such classic and chic women whose style inspires my love for vintage clothes.
